About the place
It was built in 1747 to defend the capital of the Viceroyalty from attacks by pirates and corsairs and was one of the largest fortresses on the continent. Now you can tour its facilities as part of the visit to the Museum of the Peruvian Army, which exhibits uniforms and weapons.
