One of the ways to reach the peak of the famous Corcovado is by train. A modern rack railway of Swiss origin climbs by the middle of the “Tijuca”rainforest, the world largest urban up to the top of Mount Corcovado (up to 710 meters high)).
The train takes around 17 minutes to climb at a maximum speed of 15 km per hour; while the return is made in 22 minutes because of a descending slower speed of 12 km/h. During the journey, one of the most impressive views we may appreciate is the “Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon”.
Reaching the top you will find the famous Cristo del Corcovado, sculpted in soapstone and decorated with Mosaics, in an art-nouveau style. The statue is 38 meters tall and was selected not long ago as one of the “7 wonders of the modern world”. With its open arms, the statue seems to be blessing the marvelous city.
The almost complete view of the city is breathtaking.
