Day 01: Ollantaytambo - Km 104 - Wiñaywayna - Machupicchu - Aguas Calientes

Early morning, we will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to the train station, where we’ll board a train that will take us to KM 104 on the Cusco–Machupicchu Railroad (the starting point of our hike where we’ll arrive around 8:10 am).

We will visit the Chachabamba Archaeological Complex (2,150m/7,052ft), located very close to the control point. Then, we’ll gradually ascend for approximately three hours towards the fascinating archaeological complex of Wiñay Wayna (2,650m/8,692ft). After eating lunch, we will continue hiking through the semi-tropical forest towards Inti Punku (the Sun Gate) 2,700m/ 8,858 ft, where you’ll enjoy your first panoramic view of the sacred city of Machu Picchu.

This magical place will surprise you with its impressive geography, as well as with its evidence revealing the high intellectual and spiritual development achieved by the Andean people under the rule of the Incas.

After crossing the archaeological site, we will be transported to the town of Aguas Calientes (2,040m/6,692 ft) where you’ll spend the evening relaxing in your hotel and preparing yourself for more extensive exploration that awaits you the next day.

Day 02: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco

Early in the morning, at 5:30 am we will move to the bus station of Aguas Calientes (2,040m/ 6,692 ft), to take the touristic bus that leads to the sacred citadel of Machu Picchu (2,430m/ 7,972ft). This short bus ride takes only 30 minutes and covers an unpaved track, very steep and winding through a jungle and mountain properties with breathtaking views.

Finally, we will arrive to Machu Picchu, where our guide will tour the most important sectors of this beautiful citadel. Around 12:00 hours we will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes.

In the afternoon we return to the station to catch the train to Ollantaytambo and then transferred to a tourist bus to return to the city of Cusco.

The trip to the Cusco will take approximately 4 hours.

What To Bring

  • Warm clothes (jacket, fleece and sweaters).
  • Flashlight and batteries.
  • Hat or cap to protect you from the sun, rain or cold.
  • Sun block and insect repellent.
  • Toilet paper.
  • Snacks: biscuits, energy bars, chocolate, etc.
  • Cash (no ATM machines in Aguas Calientes).
  • Swimsuit (if you plan on visiting the hot springs at Aguas Calientes after the trek).
