Day 8: Sacred Valley of The Incas

Authentic Experience In The Sacred Valley: Chinchero, Terrance Of Moray, Maras Salt Mines, And Huaypo Lagoon.

In this tour we will visit unforgettable attractions nearby of the Sacred Valley.

Our first stop will be the town of Chinchero, famous for its archaeological center and its textiles. We will visit a cultural center that has a spectacular view of the Chinchero archeological site. Then, we will have the opportunity to visit Moray, an interesting archeological site in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

You will visit its enormous circular and semicircular agricultural terraces, which were developed on the natural cavities formed on the hill, and that Incas used as a botanic laboratory.

We will continue to Maras, where the world’s finest salt is extracted: Maras salt. The area resembles a mosaic of terraces and ponds, providing a unique view for those who enjoy taking amazing photographs.

Finally, we will have a great experience visiting Huaypo Lagoo. The beautiful Huaypo lagoon is located at 3507m/11,505ft above sea level in the city of Chincheros which is between the sacred valley of the Incas and the city of Cusco.

Once we arrive at the lagoon there will be our chef and waiter waiting for us with some drinks and snacks prepared for you. After we are done enjoying some delicious snacks, your guide will give you easy to learn information about the use of stand-up paddle, gear and safety instructions.

There will be a changing tent where you can get ready for your adventure. Then when we are fully equipped and ready, we will all get inside the lagoon. We will be there paddling for around two hours in these beautiful crystalline waters admiring the birds flying around and the fish swimming beneath us.

While on this aquatic adventure you can take pictures with the snowy mountains as a lovely background. Once we have finished our stand up paddle adventure we will be heading back to our picnic where the chef will have ready some very delicious snacks for you.

While we are enjoying our snacks and sharing about our experience in the lagoon, the chefs will have prepared the best of Peruvian cuisine for our buffet lunch. These meals are specially made for the altitude that we will be at.

Day 9: Sacred Valley of The Incas / Aguas Calientes

Orchid Trail

Walk through the orchid garden to observe some of the hotel’s 372 different native orchid species in their natural habitat, the world record according to the American Orchid Society.

Discover this extraordinary plant family, which has captured the human imagination for centuries. From the largest orchid flower in the world – the Phragmipedium caudatum, to tiny flowering specimens properly appreciated only through a magnifying glass, there are orchids to amaze both the newly inquisitive and the expert, including species new to science which have been discovered on the hotel grounds.

Nature Walk

Walk along the hotel’s trails, and discover the fascinating yet fragile ecosystem of the Machu Picchu cloud forest, and learn about its many indigenous plants and animals.

The Nature Walk offers travelers a glimpse of cloud forest flora: ferns, bromeliads and orchids and fauna -an interesting variety of birds; as well as an introduction to the Vilcanota river system, the Observatory, the tea garden and house.

Tea House

Visit our organic tea (Camellia sinensis) plantation and tea house to discover the wonders of the traditional tea making process. Take part as the freshly picked leaves are pressed over wooden blocks and finally seal your own tea bag. A glass of fresh hot or iced-tea from the Tea House at the hotel lobby completes the experience.

Overnight at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel

Day 10: Aguas Calientes / Machu Picchu / Cusco

Early in the morning, you will take a small bus to go up until Machu Picchu ruins (this trip takes 25 minutes approximately).

Once you get at Machu Picchu citadel. You will receive a private tour of the ruins discovered in 1911 by the explorer Hiram Bingham, this citadel is considered to be one of the most extraordinary examples of landscapes architecture in the world.

Located in an enclave on the saddle of a mountain overlooking the deep canyon of the Urubamba River, in an area of lush tropical forest, it served as a place of worship, a site for star-gazing and a private hacienda of the family of the Inca Pachacutec.

It consists of two main areas one agricultural, formed mainly by mountains and food stores, and the other urban, which is noted for its sacred zone with its temples, squares and royal tombs. The stairways and canals carved out of stone are recurrent throughout this remarkable archaeological site.

At proper time, departure of train from Aguas Calientes to Poroy (this trip takes 3 hours and a half approximately).

Day 11: Cusco

Saqsayhuaman Fortress And Paiting Session

We offer painting sessions in the countryside with rare views of snow capped mountains, Inca ruins, and all the colors of Cusco. Unique view of the Saqsayhuaman ruins and the Cusco Valley just 20 minutes outside of the city.

Local Experience In Cusco City (Koricancha Convent, San Pedro Market & San Blas)

City tour visiting the Main Square, known in Inca times as Huacaypata or “The Warriors Square”, this was the scene for many key events in Cuzco’s history. The Cathedral, built between 1560 and 1664 with large stones of red granite taken from the Inca Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, the Cathedral is one of the most imposing structures in the city.

It also houses one of the most important collections of gold and silver work of the colonial period, elaborately engraved wooden altars and a beautiful collection of oil on canvas paintings from the Escuela Cusqueña. Koricancha and the Santo Domingo Convent.

The Convent was built on the spectacular Koricancha (site of gold), the most important temple dedicated to the worship of the Sun and whose walls were plated with sheets of gold. As well as, the convent was built above a foundation of smoothened stone structures, the most finely crafted in Cusco, taken from the Inca Sanctuary.

Then, you will start a local experience that begins at San Pedro Market by absorbing all the components varying from chocolate, ají pepper, herbs, spices and coffee aromas. We then observe the distinct texture of Andean grains such as kiwicha, quinoa, canihua and a large variety of native products from the Andes.

Larco Herrera Museum And City Tour Of Lima (City Of The Kings) 

We will have the opportunity to visit Larco Herrera Museum, a private collection of more than 3000 years of Pre-Columbian history.

After the tour, you will enjoy a delicious lunch at Museo Larco Café-Restaurant 

This restaurant offers visitors a taste of the best Peruvian and international cuisine, in an enchanting and welcoming atmosphere. With a varied and select homemade menu, we seek to rediscover the flavors, products and customs of the different regions of Peru, confirming that this country is an extraordinary gastronomic and cultural.

Then, you will have a panoramic tour

Colonial Lima

We will visit downtown Lima`s historical center, designated by UNESCO as Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 1991. In this journey we will enjoy what once was the center of the 16th century Spanish colony.

We will see the Plaza Mayor, the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral, the Archbishop`s Palace, the City Hall and the Desamparados Train Station. We will also see Plaza San Martin, a large park surrounded by old buildings and other landmarks.
